Aurora Gaming announced its first-ever VALORANT roster on October 28, 2026, naming Nikita “Derke” Sirmitev, Ričardas “Boo” Lukaševičius, Nikita “trexx” Cherednichenko, Egor “chiwa” Stepanyuk and Vitaliy “B1SK” Emelyanov in a post on X. The Serbian organisation, known for Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2, has never previously competed in a Riot Games title. No coach has been named. Aurora does not hold a VCT EMEA partner slot for 2027, which means the roster — featuring a Champions finalist, an Esports World Cup winner and a Champions participant — must earn its place through the European Open Qualifiers in November.

A roster built on top-tier credentials

Derke arrives from Team Vitality, where he reached the Champions 2026 final before losing 3-1 to LOUD. The Finnish duelist previously won VCT LOCK//IN São Paulo and Masters Tokyo with Fnatic in 2023, added two VCT EMEA titles in 2024, and claimed VCT EMEA Kickoff 2025 with Vitality. Aurora is his fourth VCT organisation. Vitality announced his departure on October 24.

Boo captained Team Heretics for the entire VCT partnership era, from 2023 through the end of 2026. Under his leadership the team reached the Champions 2024 final and the Masters Shanghai final that same year, and won the 2025 Esports World Cup. His release at the end of 2026 closes one of the longest continuous captaincies in the EMEA league.

trexx returned to Team Liquid for Stage 2 of 2026, reached the regional final and competed at Champions 2026, before announcing on X that he would not stay. He and Derke were teammates at Vitality in 2025, so the pairing is not untested.

The remaining two slots go to players who dominated the Challengers circuit. chiwa won three French Challengers titles with Joblife between 2025 and 2026 and finished third at Challengers EMEA Stage 3. B1SK took Challengers Spain Stage 1 with UCAM in 2026. Both are stepping up to the highest level of competition for the first time.

The qualification problem

Individual talent does not bypass structural requirements. VCT EMEA Kickoff 2027 will feature 12 teams: eight partners and four qualifiers — two from Europe, one from Türkiye and one from MENA. Aurora sits in the European qualifier pool, scheduled for November 5–8 and November 12–15, 2026. Two European spots are available. The margin for error is thin, and the field will include other displaced rosters.

The most notable of those belongs to Natus Vincere. NAVI released its entire 2026 VALORANT roster on the same day as Aurora’s announcement, after being told on October 19 that it had not been selected as a VCT partner for 2027. Released players include Emirhan “hiro” Kat, Uğur “Ruxic” Güç, Caide “chloric” Heaton, Abdullah “ExiT” Al-Twaijri, Clément “CyvOph” Millard and head coach Kyrylo “ANGE1” Karasov. NAVI will instead field its academy side, NAVI Junior, in the same European qualifier bracket Aurora must navigate.

The situation is a direct consequence of the reduced eight-partner EMEA league structure for 2027. Organisations that lost their slots — and new entrants like Aurora without one — are funneled into the same open qualification path regardless of the calibre of players they field. A Champions finalist and an Esports World Cup winner are now in the same bracket as academy rosters and Challengers squads fighting for the same two European tickets.

What the announcement looked like

The news surfaced in stages. Sheep Esports first reported on October 28 that Aurora would build its inaugural VALORANT team around Derke, followed by reports on Boo and trexx. Aurora confirmed the full five-player roster later that night. The organisation’s post on X read: “THIS IS AURORA VALORANT. No introductions needed. A new chapter begins.”

The timing alongside NAVI’s release was not lost on observers. Two stories about the shrinking partner system broke on the same day: one about a new organisation assembling proven talent without a guaranteed slot, the other about an established organisation losing its slot entirely and releasing everyone. Both now face the same qualifier.

What this means for ranked players

The immediate competitive implication is straightforward: Aurora’s roster is unproven as a unit and has no coach, so early results in the November qualifiers will be volatile. If the team fails to qualify, Derke, Boo and trexx — all players with deep international experience — would be without a tier-one team for the start of the 2027 season. That scenario is not hypothetical; it is the structural risk built into the current system.

For players tracking the EMEA meta, the roster composition is worth noting. Derke is a duelist, Boo has played flex and controller roles for Heretics, and trexx has covered initiator and sentinel duties. chiwa and B1SK are less defined at this level. Role assignments and agent pools will likely shift during the qualifier period as the team finds its identity under tournament pressure.

The broader lesson for anyone following the scene: the 2027 VCT structure means roster quality no longer guarantees league access. Open qualifiers are the equaliser, and they do not care about résumés.
