What we collect, why we collect it, and what we do not.
This policy explains how The Esports Library uses your information. It covers this website, at theesportslibrary.com.
The Esports Library is for people aged 13 and over. You need to be at least 13 to create an account, leave a comment, or become a supporter.
We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If we find out an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete the account and everything attached to it. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, email us, and we will remove it.
Some countries set a higher age than 13 for consenting to your data being processed. If you are under the age where you live, please ask a parent or guardian before signing up.
Almost everything here is something you typed in or uploaded yourself. Nothing in this list is required to read the site — you only have an account if you chose to make one.
| What | Why we have it |
|---|---|
| Email address | It is how you sign in, and how we reach you about your account. |
| Password | Stored only as a one-way hash. Nobody here can read it. |
| Username | Created when you register. It is internal, never shown publicly, and never changes. |
| Display name and bio | Shown publicly on your profile, because you chose to put them there. |
| Gaming handle, main game, rank, platform | Optional. Blank unless you fill them in. |
| Profile picture and banner | Optional images you upload. |
| Saved articles | So your bookmarks are still there next time you visit. |
| Articles you have opened | Only while signed in, and only to show a reading count on your own account page. It is not shared and not used to profile you. |
| Supporter status and start date | To turn ads off and unlock supporter features. |
| Comments | Your comments are stored against your account. They are kept until your account is deleted, or until you ask us to remove one. |
We do not sell your information, rent it, or hand it to data brokers. There is no version of this site where that happens.
We use cookies for two things:
There are no advertising cookies today. If that ever changes, we will update this page before it does, not after.
Account information stays for as long as your account exists. Ask us to delete your account, and it goes, along with your profile fields, uploads, bookmarks, and reading count.
Comments are kept until you delete your account, or ask us to remove an individual one. Server logs are kept for a short period by our host. Records of payments are held by Stripe, which must keep them for tax and accounting purposes.
Whatever country you are in, we will honor these:
Email us and we will action it. We have built-in export and erase tools for exactly this, so it is a small job, not a favor.
The site runs over HTTPS, passwords are hashed, and payment details are kept off our servers entirely by design. No site can promise perfect security, but the risk we can actually remove is keeping data we do not need, so we try not to hold it in the first place.
If we make any changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
